Funfetti Vanilla Donuts

Aren’t these just the cutest most colorful donuts you’ve ever seen!? A while back I bought a couple donut pans to bake with my niece and nephew, and these are perfect to make with kids and they are so quick and easy to make! I just made the base recipe that came with the packaging, and there are just a million ways to spice them up! Last time I had frozen blueberries so threw them in, and then also did some cinnamon sugar ones.

For this batch I added in a little vanilla extract into the batter along with sprinkles. What kid ( and adult, let’s be honest) doesn’t like sprinkles!? SO adorable and they only take about 7 minutes in the oven! I top these little guys with a simple vanilla glaze, then dip them in fruity pebbles cereal.

Such a fun weekend treat to make with the kids! If you don’t have a donut pan you could try these in mini muffin tins to make little donut holes! Just be sure to adjust the baking time down. Perfect for a brunch shower, birthday party, or just plain breakfast! Have fun!

Author Laura Doerr

Ingredients

  • 1 cup flour
  • 6 tbsp white sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/8 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 6 tbsp buttermilk
  • 1 egg lightly beaten
  • 1 tbsp butter melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup multi-colored sprinkles
  • 1 1/2 cups fruity pebbles cereal

Vanilla Glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Spray a donut pan with cooking spray.

  2. In a medium bowl stir together flour, sugar, baking powder, nutmeg, and salt. Add in buttermilk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla. Stir until combined. Gently stir in the sprinkles.

  3. Spoon the dough into a plastic zip top bag for piping. This will make it very easy to get the dough nicely in the pan. If you don't have baggies you can just gently spoon. Evenly distribute the dough into the pan.

  4. Bake for 7-8 minutes. Donuts should spring back to the touch. Cool in the pans for about 5 minutes before removing onto a wire cooling rack.

  5. In a shallow dish combine powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Add fruity pebbles to another shallow dish. Dip donuts into the vanilla glaze coating all over one side. Press into the dish with cereal to coat the top. Repeat with all donuts. Best served immediately!
